It’s been only a few days since Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro started shipping. The duo comes with some exclusive features, mostly in their camera department. And with the new Google camera update, new features have been introduced to the Pixel 8 series.
As usual, Google released the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro with some exclusive camera features. These may arrive for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 at some stage, but the new update doesn’t do it. And while we wait to see if developers will integrate with Gcam mod, the new Google update has added more features.
The new update has version number v9.1.098.570503546.23 and has a 423.7MB download size for the APKM file. It brings a new control button at the right bottom corner, which now houses Brightness, Shadow, White Balance, Exposure for video, speed for slow motion and time-lapse video, and Night Sight. You will also access the Pixel 8 exclusive Pro settings that show ISO, shutter speed, and more.
Google has also redesigned the Quick Settings section. While you can access it by swiping up, they now appear at the button of the screen and not as a floating window anymore. Also, there’s a new Rich color in photos option. It allows using the Display P3 format instead of sRGB, which will allow Pixel phones to capture wide gamut color images in JPEG format without using 10-bit HDR. You can enable via Advanced Settings.
Unfortunately, most of these features are exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro. And while the APKM file works on Pixel phones, its functions are limited. Those who have installed the app confirmed it’s crashing on certain modes. We recommend waiting for the release on the Play Store or Gcam mod. Nevertheless, you can install the update since you can easily uninstall it if it doesn’t work.
Gcam 9.1: Download the new Google Camera update
Google is rolling out v9.1 of its camera app. The new update is available on the Google Play store, but at the moment, it’s not available widely. We expect more regions to get the update in the coming days, but you can download the APKM file from here.
Meanwhile, the APK was extracted from the Pixel 8 Pro, hence, the Pro controls aren’t available. Also, some modes, like Portrait and Long Exposure, might not work.
