Apple iPhone 16 Pro series runs the company’s most powerful processor yet – A18 Pro, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will feature on most Android flagship phones of 2024. We have yet to experience the real-life performance of both SoC, given that the iPhone 16 Pro series has yet to reach the hands of consumers, and the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected in October. However, thanks to the latest Geekbench benchmark listing, we now have an idea of what to expect from the duo in terms of performance.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 vs Apple A18 Pro
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is poised to beat the A18 Pro in terms of performance this year, according to the Geekbench benchmark listing. It lists a single-core of 3,409 and a multi-core score of 8,492 for the A18 Pro chip. Meanwhile, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 manages a single core of 3,236 and a multi-core score of 10,049.
While the A18 Pro edges the SD 8 Gen 4 in single-core tests, the latter’s multi-core test score is insanely high. However, the numbers may be misinterpreted, or they are just wrong, as such clock rates mean that the new Qualcomm chip will be very hot. Perhaps, smartphone makers will find a way to keep it cool.
Reports suggest that Qualcomm’s premium processor for 2024 will outperform the A18 Pro. While the former has two core clusters at 4.32 GHz + 6 efficiency cores at 3.53 GHz, the latter has 6 cores – 2×3.89 GHz + 4 x 2.2 GHz. Both are developed on TSMC’s 3nm process, and on paper, it looks like Qualcomm will finally beat Apple.
It is possible the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 matches or even exceeds the A18 Pro, at least in Multi-core tests when the real numbers are in, however, the latter will probably handle graphics better. Apple has equipped its latest SoC with a GPU running at 1,450 MHz, while the Adreno 830 GPU on SD 6 Gen 4 runs at 1,250 MHz.
Nevertheless, things are looking good for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, as it is poised to beat the A18 Pro chip from Apple. We hope to get real numbers when Qualcomm officially releases its flagship SoC next month. It is expected to feature in the upcoming OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 15. Both phones are arriving next month, perhaps after the SD 8 Gen 4 is official.
