Xiaomi has already upgraded all the Redmi Note 9 series devices in China to MIUI 12.5, while global models are yet to start receiving the update. The Chinese versions are different phones as they are also available globally under different monikers. Hence, the Global Redmi Note 9 series MIUI 12.5 update isn’t tied to the Chinese release. Maybe that’s the reason Xiaomi still hasn’t started rolling out the update. And once again, it shows the company prioritizes Chinese ROM users.
Of course, that’s inevitable as a Chinese company, but they should try and close the gap as it’s becoming too obvious. The company has already released MIUI 12.5 for entry-level Redmi 7 in China, while the global Redmi Note 9 series MIUI 12.5 update is yet to start seeding. According to the official roadmap released by Xiaomi, the device is supposed to receive the update in Q2 2021. That’s that on cards again as there has been a delay, and hopefully, the update comes this month.
Early reports hinted at July arrival with other Xiaomi phones, including POCO X3 NFC in-line to receive the update for the first time. The device was supposed to have received the MIUI 12.5 update as it was on the first wave of rollout, but Xiaomi happened, and hence, the update was delayed. Hopefully, the company will start pushing the update this month as they look to finalize that with MIUI 13 on the horizon.
Xiaomi will announce MIUI 13 in August and going by the latest report, MIUI 13 beta update is currently seeding in China. That development will speed up the MIUI 12.5 deployment to allow them focus only on the next iteration of MIUI. With that, we anticipate the release of the global Redmi Note 9 series MIUI 12.5 update this month. The update was confirmed to have been delayed by a moderator in the Mi community forum.
