Adding tweaks to Google Tv, releasing updates to the YouTube Music on Wear OS, and introducing and launching sleek devices like the Pixel Watch, the budget Pixel 6a, and Pixel Buds Pro, the Big G is sure to wow most tech enthusiasts all over the world with its recent activities. In addition to these recent developments, the company has announced that it’s merging Meet and Duo.
We had kept in mind that the company wasn’t going to add any other enhancements to the aforementioned apps. However, it is now merging Meet and Duo. The former was a more preferable option for business class while the latter was just a regular go-to video messaging app likened to Apple’s FaceTime.
What happens as the Big G is merging Meet and Duo
In the coming weeks, on the account of the company merging Meet and Duo, all the Meet features will now be available on the Duo app. Furthermore, sources proposed that probably later in the year, the merger will be renamed Google Meet which will then be Google’s single video communication platform.
Although the two apps are merging, there is no reason for any download as the change will occur on its own. Meanwhile, all the features originally available on your Google Duo such as the existing video calling features, conversation history, messages and contacts remain.
On merging Meet and Duo, some interesting features will be making their way to the Duo app. Some of which are customizable virtual backgrounds in calls as well as meetings, real-time closed captioning, video calls with up to 100 participants, enhanced video and audio to improve noise cancellation, live sharing of contents, Integration with other Google tools and a lot more.
We still get these enhancements on the Duo app free of charge, however, on the later conversion of the two to Meet, you would be asked to download the new Meet when you click on the old version.
