The same way we see a new Android Auto update every fortnight is the same way we see reports of a new Android Auto bug. Users are reporting difficulties using Google Assistant, which seems to have started after a recent update.
Google recently redesigned the Google Assistant, giving it a more minimal and refined look. However, the Assistant does not seem to work for some people. That is a big issue as voice command is an integral part of an infotainment experience since it handles almost all the functions like starting calls, setting a destination, reading out text messages, controlling music, and others. It is not surprising why the problem with Google Assistant on Android Auto is a big deal.
According to a report on Google’s Support Forum, triggering Google Assistant when Android Auto is connected returns an error message “Oops, something went wrong.” The issue is not exclusive to any Android Auto version but seems to have started after Android Auto 11.1. However, not everyone has the issue, which proves the problem might not be from the app.
It might be a recent update to the Google app causing the issue, as we have seen in the past. Unfortunately, there is no clear evidence pointing towards that, hence, we recommend checking for new Android Auto and Google Apps updates on the Play Store. Also, you can uninstall updates to these apps and see if that helps. Hopefully, Google will release a new update to resolve the bug for everyone.
