With the release of Google Camera 9.0, changes were made, and new features were introduced. Google also modified the app’s system icon and has now renamed it to Pixel Camera on the Play Store.
Google Camera has been exclusive to Pixel phones, while third-party phones run Gcam mod. The company is now making it more obvious with the new name change while highlighting the new features it has integrated into the app. However, most of these features are exclusive to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
The latest Pixel Camera update is available for the Pixel 8 series, and with the new name, descriptions have been updated. It says, “Never miss a moment with the fully redesigned Pixel Camera, and take fantastic photos and videos using features like Portrait, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur.”
Of course, these features are available on Pixel phones running Pixel Camera 9.0. However, Google has listed some of the Pixel 8 Pro exclusive features, which they integrated with Pixel Camera 9.1. These include 50MP Higher Res and Pro controls.
Meanwhile, you don’t need to update your app to see the new name. It’s already appearing on the Play Store, which reflects more on its exclusiveness to the Pixels. Nevertheless, we expect developers to release Gcam 9.1, which will bring these features to third-party phones.
