Google has confirmed the stable Android 16 release date. The tech company will start rolling out the update in June, which is not a surprise. However, the Material 3 Expressive Design will not be arriving with the update, with Google having a different release time frame for that.

During the press briefing ahead of The Android Show, Google revealed some details of their upcoming Android features. According to Allen Huang, the company’s Director of Product and Management for Pixel and Android system UI, the public release of stable Android 16 is in June.
Stable Android 16 release date confirmed
He confirmed the release month when speaking about the Material 3 Expressive Design saying, “The updates for Material Expressive are going to be available on Pixel devices first later this year, but it’s not going to be part of the public release in June.”
Google releasing Android 16 in June is what we have known for some time now. The company has only just confirmed it, albeit there is no date. However, we understand the stable Android 16 will start rolling out for eligible Pixel users on June 3, a few weeks from today. Perhaps Google will officially announce the date during the I/O 2025 event.
Once the stable Android 16 update is released, we expect other smartphone companies to start rolling out the update. Xiaomi has already commenced a public preview, while Samsung is expected to join soon. We hope to see other brands announce the release time for their eligible devices and some Custom ROMs for phones that have already elapsed their OS support period.
