Google Home app has been an indispensable software integration that helps in using various smart home devices. You can connect speakers, Chromecasts, and cameras in different areas of your house, and control them from your favorite Android phones and tablets. The Google Home app also supports Google Assistant for a hands-free experience and is useful for managing third-party products. In addition to the already supported smart home devices, the Google Home app has gained support to control garage doors.
Further details of the new Google Home app support
The Big G, Google has quietly added functionality for garage door controls to the Google Home app in recent weeks. As recently revealed by a Reddit user, this allows users to open or close their garage door using compatible gear with the stroke of a button, generally with a huge on/off toggle. Other users have also confirmed the functionality.
The addition of functionality is long overdue. Garage door openers have long been listed in the Home app, but they were inactive. To open or close the door, customers were compelled to activate the Google Assistant with a voice or typed command.
That being said, this feature will not work for all garage door openers, but as with other categories, it should be quite common. Tailwind is one brand that we can confirm works. Meanwhile, we’ve also got an Inbox feature added to the Google Home app. Not to mention the improved lighting setting, Wear OS app upgrades alongside improved camera compatibility.
