The Google Maps for Android has been getting a lot of tweaks recently from the Big G. Speaking of the immersive view that can let users get a peek at a restaurant in a city, and then the Street View enables users to access how territories and structures change over time. However, joining the tweaks to Google Maps, the software has gotten a nearby traffic widget.
While first-party apps have been permitted by Google to have 30 widgets on Android, a new nearby traffic widget has been added to Google Maps, which alerts users of nearby traffic in their current location.
Description of the Nearby traffic widget
According to the preview obtained from sources, the nearby widget is in the form of a round square with a blue dot seen in it just like the traffic map layer on the app. The state of things is noted with orange, red, and green lines. The size of the nearby traffic widget seems to be 2×2, however, the company is yet to specify if this can be resizable.
A Google logo is seen at the bottom left corner of the nearby traffic widget while at the bottom right corner, a dynamic color floating action button is seen that allows users to zoom in and out. Since the widget appears on your home screen, you can access your current location without having to open Google Maps. You can also access what local traffic is on your route to your school, workplace, or anywhere else.
This feature is expected to come on Android in recent weeks. Meanwhile, iOS users have a similar feature “Know before you go” which is a bit broader having the ability to see location details, restaurant reviews, opening times, and a lot more. On launching this, the Big G says the first-party widgets on Android will be increased to 35.
