Many tweaks have been added to Google software since the dawn of the year. We’ve had a new self-share feature for Nearby share, and improvements in Android Auto among others. Joining the update party, Google Photos gets new filters. What an impressive move to photography by the Big G.
Google Photos gets new filters which are considered “Real Tone” filters as they are designed to show the user’s skin tone in its true shade. Noticed on the flagship Google Pixel 6 series, the company aimed at capturing different varieties of skin tones by adjusting the phone’s camera thereby giving users a picture of how they look exactly.
In the just-concluded Google I/O, the Big G introduced a Monk Skin Tone Scale which is an open-source library capable of making machine learning of images more finesse by better interpretation of skin tone and shades.
That said, the company said that the Monk Scale will be put to use when Google Photos gets new filters. In addition, the App is also said to tweak already taken photos to the original skin tone. The new filters, Real Tone filters are finally available on both iOS, Android and the web.
How to use “Real Tone” as Google Photos gets new filters
Once the feature is rolled out fully, users will get a new variety of filter options like Playa, Honey, Isla and Desert, these can be accessed via the “Filter” tab of the Google Photos editor. A “Made with Real Tone” overlaid mention is seen when any filter is picked and can be adjusted to match any skin tone. What a new and amazing way to get fantastic photos.
