Google will start rolling out the stable Android 14 update in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, Pixel 4a users will not will receive the update as the device has elapsed its support period. Meanwhile, those using Pixel 4a 5G will continue receiving updates until November at least.
After a two week delay, Google released the September 2023 security patch update a few days ago excluding Pixel 4a users. A quick stop at Google’s support page shows the device official support elapsed in August, perhaps why it didn’t participate in the Android 14 beta tests.
Google started the Android 14 preview early this year, and never released any update to the Pixel 4a. It means the device won’t be upgrading to a new Android OS, since it never received an Android 14 beta build. If you want to continue receiving updates moving forward, it’s time to get a new device.
However, while Android 13 is where the journey stops for the Pixel 4a, Google might release a software update to the device. The company usually releases an update or more after a device reaches end of support. Of course, it’s not guaranteed, hence, we recommend getting a new device to continue receiving updates.
