Google has officially released the Pixel 7a after months of leaks. The device is priced higher than the Pixel 6a, but there have been some interesting upgrades.
The Google Pixel 7a has a 6.1-inch AMOLED display and refreshes at 90Hz coupled with a Google Smooth Display design. It’s a 1080 x 2400px panel protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The body is made of recycled aluminum, glass, and plastic while a 3D composite comes in the rear panel. With its sturdy build, the device has certified the IP67 rating, making it dust and water-resistant.
Under the hood, we found the Tensor G2 chip and Titan M2 co-processor. Both Chipset powers the more premium Pixel 7 and Pixel Pro. It’s coupled with 8GB RAM and 128GB of UFS3.1 ROM. Unfortunately, the memory cannot be expanded using a micro SD card.
Outside of the box, Google Pixel 7a runs Android 13, and with Google prioritizing 5 years of security support, the device’s support will stop in 2028. It will receive three Android OS upgrades within that period, with Android 14 to arrive first.
Interestingly, Google has moved to a primary 64 MP camera sensor, paired with a 13MP Ultra-wide shooter at the back. There’s no macro shooter, but the device can take close-up (5cm) shots without much distortion. It can shoot 4k@30fps videos with both the rear and front camera sensors. Meanwhile, the selfie camera sensor is a single 13MP and takes good photos.
Of course, with the Google camera app, you get fascinating software features like Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, Night Sight, and Real Tone for processing images and representing skin tone more accurately.
With all these features, a 4,386mAh battery has been slammed on the Pixel 7a to address the power demand. On an Extreme Battery Saver mode, it has been tipped to last up to 72 hours. Again, the charging speed is slow and capped at 20W, while the wireless charging is limited to 18W.
The device uses an under-display fingerprint scanner for biometrics verification while featuring face unlock. It doesn’t support a headphone jack, but there are stereo speakers.
