Announced weeks ago, the Google Play system update for July 2024 is now available for download. The update is rolling out for Pixel phones and other supported Android devices. We recommend installing the upgrade to optimize performance and resolve issues.
Most Android phones were on the May 2024 update when the Google Play system update for July 2024 was announced earlier this month. According to the changelog, the update introduced Play Protect Live Targets to monitor apps that try to cloak their actions.
“The Private Compute core that detects suspicious app behaviors will send an app to Google for additional review if something is found. You will be prompted to uninstall the app once it’s confirmed to be malicious.” The feature is available for most Android phones. Aside from the new introduction, the update has optimized performance and resolved bugs.

Depending on your device, you will get a different package size. The update is 21 MB on Pixel 7 Pro, and you can install it via Settings>>Security & privacy>> System & updates>> Google Play system update. Download the package and reboot your device to complete the installation.
