The much anticipated Google I/O 2022 conference has finally taken place on the scheduled date and a few details of Google’s soon to debut devices were spilled at the event. Google teases the Pixel watch by revealing a lot more details about the wearable and talking about debuting the next generation of the Pixel series, Google Pixel 7 later this year.
Before the event, rumors said the Pixel watch was going to have an internal codename Pixel Rohan as well as a Wear OS 3.1. Apart from these software tweaks, an individual who came across the wearable said the watch is about half an inch thick and one and a half inches in diameter.
Google teases the Pixel Watch as the company spills more details
As Google teases the Pixel watch in the interesting event, the company said the wearable hardware consists of three distinct pieces, starting with a bulbous cover glass that curves to the metal side. The Big G aimed for an edge-to-edge look, more like a domed design, however, the display is still a flat surface with a black bezel around it.
Furthermore, there is a bottle cap-shaped crown that is clickable and quite sensitive to touch, located at the 3 o’clock position, and a button above it. Below that is the first of the two small holes while the second is situated at the left edge next to the long speaker cutout.
Elsewhere on the perimeter are two watchband slots with buttons at the right that allow for fast swapping with a twist. A proprietary strap system is used, while Google is using Fitbit’s “infinity band” design that consists of two loops and a pill-shaped peg.
Both the metal perimeter and bottom dome, which is the third piece, are quite thick. Sensors are arranged horizontally at the center for some symmetry. Google at the event mentioned continuous heart rate and sleep tracking.
Any software tweaks?
While Google teases the Pixel Watch by revealing further hardware details, Google teases the Pixel watch in terms of software as well. The wearable is going to debut with an improved Wear OS UI, a new assistant UI, a new Google wallet feature, an enhanced Google Home app, as well as 50 meters of water resistance to mention a few.
The Pixel 7 remains in a grey area, although be sure to expect more details before its debut later in the year as disclosed in the Google I/O 2022. Till then we will keep an eye out for more leaks.
