A while ago, we reported a bug in Google Photo that makes old images look “corrupted”. Corrupted as in, the images are seen with distorted areas, cracks and lines resembling a hard copy image that got water spilt on it. Some of them look so affected with no reason for why it’s that way.
Unfortunately, the old images on Google Photos are in the same circumstances across all versions of the app – web, Android and even iOS.
Even more unfortunate, the issue continued after users had downloaded the image – both individual downloads and via Google Takeout – to their smartphones from the cloud. It is also worth noting that it’s only edited images that appear as “corrupted” in the Google Photos app, not the original copies. Users took to Reddit to display photos they had that have received this treatment and thus requested a fix for the Google Photos bug.
Fortunately, the fix for the Google Photos bug will be rolled out soon according to the Big G, Google. In their words “We’re aware of the issue and are rolling out a fix”. Seeing the look of things – the inability to trace the reason for the distortion of the images – probably Google will issue an explanation alongside the fix for the Google Photos bug.
Till the fix for the Google Photos bug arrives
Till when this fix arrives, you could explore the other features that have been since rolled out to the software. We have new filters, zoom tweaks as well as tweaks to the Memories on the app among other interesting features.
