Android has been criticized for its lack of security features, which is slowly changing with the protection features Google has incorporated in the last months. The tech company debuted Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock. All these features are supposed to keep your data safe in case of theft, but the company feels Identity Check is essential.

Our device is now part of us as it has almost everything on it. Improving security has become a priority, and luckily, Google is working on that. With the latest Identity Check feature, it will be hard for thieves to access your digital account in case of theft.
How will Identify Check protect your data?
The feature will make it hard for someone to change certain settings on your device when they get hold of it. Biometric authentication will be required when you are not in a trusted location. Hence, you will need to authenticate using your biometrics.
As a result, it will prevent thieves from changing your device PIN and biometrics, turning off Find My Device, accessing Passkeys, and factory resetting your device.
Android phones to get Identity Check
Google is targeting Android 15 and later with the feature, meaning all eligible Pixel phones will get it. Samsung phones that are due for an upgrade to One UI 7 will get security protection. We expect the rollout to start in the coming weeks, while other Android phones will get it later this year.
