There are a lot of phishing and hacking methods by which scammers intrude on users’ cyberspace, privacy and personal details. The WhatsApp scam that was just notified by end-users is when hackers bypass Whatsapp security and get into the user’s account. This is a simple but very dangerous tech threat and here’s what we know.

Be cautious of the Whatsapp scam

According to 91mobiles, scammers reach out to their targets and ask them to dial a specific number and when the victims dial the number, the hackers gain access to their Whatsapp accounts. That’s how dangerous the WhatsApp scam is.

Rahul Sasi, founder and CEO of CloudSek, which is a Contextual AI company that predicts cyber threats, revealed that the hackers will try to convince users to dial a 10-digit number that starts with either **67* or *405*. This phone number is what is used by the hackers because it is a number used by all carriers in the world, users will not suspect the scam and are more likely to dial the number.

When the hackers have made their way to your WhatsApp account, of course, they have access to your contacts before you realize you’ve been hacked and they can extort you for money in exchange for your personal information.

How to evade the WhatsApp scam

Be cautious of the Whatsapp scam

The best way to evade the WhatsApp scam is by setting up the two-factor verification for your WhatsApp account and also by creating a password or PIN to log in. Another way is by being cautious of the number given to you to dial by these scammers.

Well, the tips given above are not only used in evading Whatsapp scams but are generally applied when attacked on other platforms as well. So if you use WhatsApp or not, you can still follow the security procedures.
