Goodnews! You can now install Android 13 on your Google Pixel device. Details below.
Google has released Android 13 and it came earlier than we anticipated. This release can be likened to icing on the cake for the Android faithful, especially after the beta program whereby developers and users try out new features and provide responses to Google was extended.
The latest Android 13 features include the following; customisable icons, redesigned media player, app language preferences, and updated permissions.
For Google Pixel phones, this update is available for Pixel 4/4XL, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 6 Pro. Other devices can expect the update later in the year.
If you want to install Android 13 on your Pixel phone, you will have to follow our guide.
How to install Android 13 on Google Pixel Device
1. Unlock your Pixel phone
If your device falls into the above Pixel categories, you can begin installing the update. First, unlock your device.
2. Locate and launch Settings either by pulling down your phone’s Notification Shade from the top and clicking on the Settings icon or by launching it from the main menu.
3. From the Settings menu, scroll down to locate the System option and click on it.
4. Find the System Update option by scrolling down. Click on it.
5. If there’s a system update available, it will show up as “Update available”. If your device doesn’t show any updates, click on the Check for Update button. Once it appears, click on Download and install.
6. The Android 13 Update will begin to download. Depending on your Internet connection, this might take a while. After the download is completed, it will be installed on your device and your phone will restart.
These updates are being rolled out over an extended period, so if you don’t see any update after following the steps above, you may choose to exercise a little patience, side-load it immediately with Android’s developer tools, or enrol for the Android Beta program if you haven’t done so already. To enrol for the Android Beta program, see the below step.
- Go to the Android Beta program website using any device and sign in to the same Google account that your Pixel phone uses.
- You will find a button to “see eligible devices.” Click on it and you will be able to see if your device is eligible
- After that, you can select “Opt-in” to sign up for the beta program. You must accept the terms and conditions of the program before pressing Confirm and Enroll.
After signing up for the Beta program, the update should now appear on your device and you can then follow previous steps to update your phone.
Note: According to Google, it is not possible to revert to Android 12 after installing the Android 13 update on Pixel 6, 6a, and 6Pro as it will tamper with the bootloader.
