How To Set up and use an AirTag on your iPhone or iPad

To set up an AirTag on your iPhone or iPad, you will need to ensure that your device is running iOS 14 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 14 or later for iPad. However, it is important to note that you cannot set up an AirTag using a Mac. But you will be able to use and manage it on macOS once you connect it to your Apple ID.

Bearing that in mind, here are the steps to follow to set up an AirTag on your iDevice;

  • Ensure that your device has Bluetooth enabled and is connected to an active internet connection.
  • Remove the plastic wrap on your AirTag, and this should turn it on and make it beep.
  • Bring your iPhone or iPad closer to the AirTag, and a pop-up alert will appear with a Connect button. Click the Connect button.
  • You will be prompted to name your AirTag. You can choose from the available names or give it a custom name. Click Continue when you are done.
  • The pop-up alert will indicate that the AirTag will be registered to your Apple ID, including your email address and phone number associated with your Apple ID. Tap the Continue button.
  • Wait for the AirTag to finish setting up.
  • Once it is done, you will see its current location with you, and it will introduce you to some of its features. You can click Done or View in Find My app, depending on what you want to do next.
  • Finally, you can find your AirTag in the Items tab on all of your updated Apple devices.
