OpenAI is a research lab that has created many artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including DALL-E, an AI tool that creates detailed art, and ChatGPT, an AI bot that can answer questions, have conversations, and write basic code for developers.
One very significant creation of openAI, is Playground, an advanced language tool that uses AI to imitate authentic human activity. Its predictive function allows users to enter scripts or phrases and receive the most realistic responses, creating a “back-and-forth” conversation experience.
This tool is free but has a time limit. Users after signing up can submit prompts and experiment with any idea they want. They can change the AI model and advanced settings, such as temperature and frequency, to their satisfaction. This technology has indeed received positive responses from several users across the world. If you are yet to try this artificial intelligence tool out, this article will show you how to use it.
How to sign up for OpenAI Playground
You’ll need to create an OpenAI account if you want to use Playground. Here’s how:
- Visit the API page on OpenAI and hit “Sign Up” on the top-right corner. You can log in with your Google or Microsoft credentials, or sign up with a separate email address you’ve previously not used for this platform (and enter a verification code they send later).
- Provide your name and optional organization, followed by inputting the phone number linked to your account for two-step authentication.
- When prompted about the purpose of using OpenAI, select “I’m exploring personal use”.
- You are done and can start exploring.
Using a Prompt on Playground
To begin, you need to ask the AI some questions you want it to answer for you. Any question will do, however, avoid sharing any sensitive information with it. Here are some questions you can begin with:
- Write a short story about a detective trying to solve a mysterious murder case.
- Imagine a world where humans live in harmony with robots. Describe a typical day in this world.
- Write a review of your favourite book, movie, or TV show.
- Imagine a new invention that could change the world. Describe how it works and its potential impact.
- Write a letter to your future self, 10 years from now.
- Write a conversation between two characters who have just met on a blind date.
Choosing Plans and Models
On the right side of the Playground dialogue box, you will find various settings that can be modified. These settings include model options which allow you to choose the AI you want to communicate with.
There are four base language models: Ada, Babbage, Curie, and Davinci. Ada is the fastest, while Davinci provides the most sophisticated responses. Each base model also has “fine-tuned” versions that allow you to use your own training data, but these may not be necessary during the free credit period.
Changing Advanced Settings
The menu on the right side of the dialog box allows you to change the settings of the AI’s response. You can choose from three different modes: Complete, Insert, and Edit. In addition, there are technical settings like Maximum length, Temperature, Show Probabilities, and Frequency/Presence penalty that you can change. Once you’ve adjusted the settings to your liking, you can save them as a preset for future use.
