Xiaomi has confirmed plans to take down the AI portrait feature on its Gallery App. The process will start in April, to give users time to save their photos to local files.

Xiaomi moved from MIUI to HyperOS in October 2023. That helped the company achieve stability and improved the performance of its phones running the new Android skin. The upgrade also saw the introduction of new features, including HyperOS AI Portrait.

HyperOS AI Portrait feature, as the name suggests, allows you to generate new selfie pictures using artificial intelligence. It basically gives your photos a shallow depth of field. All the user has to do is submit an existing image, and in a few seconds, an artificially enhanced picture will be generated.

Interestingly, the AI portrait can generate multiple pictures to give users an option, and there is a button to create more. Unfortunately, Xiaomi will take away all of these starting in April 2025.

Details of HyperOS AI Portrait going offline

Xiaomi plans to start the process of taking down the AI portrait feature on April 1st, 2025. They have not said when the process will be completed, but we believe it will take a while. Nevertheless, we recommend saving any photos you have created using the plugin.

Once the removal is completed, you can not access the feature from Gallery>>Photos >>More, meaning any pictures that are not saved to a local file will be deleted. Also, all related data will be” permanently deleted to ensure your privacy and security.”

Xiaomi did not provide any reasons for taking down the AI portrait feature nor propose a replacement. Perhaps they plan to release a better version with Hyper AI, but that has not been confirmed.

Only a few devices support the feature. They include

  • Xiaomi 14
  • Xiaomi 14T Pro
  • Xiaomi 14T
  • Xiaomi MIX Flip
  • Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro (India)
  • POCO F6 Pro
  • POCO F6
