There have been reports about the potential replacement of MIUI with MiOS. While some of that is true, Xiaomi won’t replace MIUI with MiOS, rather, the company’s next Android skin will answer HyperOS.
Xiaomi has officially announced it’s replacing MIUI with the all-new HyperOS after 13 years. Over these past few years, the company has worked on improving its Android skin, which saw a big improvement with MIUI 14. It has become more stable, though, the animation still needs some work to become on par with the best out there. And maybe moving to a new Android skin means the company has finally reached that level.
We are yet to see what HyperOS will look like or the features that it will bring. However, we believe Xiaomi will continue with the MIUI design language while optimizing animation and performance. The company has been testing new features for its upcoming MIUI 15 update, which will now arrive as HyperOS. Hence, we believe it’s more likely a name change rather than a revamp of the whole system.
Of course, the new HyperOS will replace MIUI on all Xiaomi products, which goes beyond smartphones. The company will look to improve on what it wanted to achieve with Smart Hub – seamlessly tie its entire ecosystem that spans 200 categories, including smart Home devices, cars, and others.
We expect the HyperOS to debut with Xiaomi 14, which could arrive in the coming weeks. Given the name, we don’t expect it to be China-exclusive, as some reports suggested. Global models will also get the new Android skin, but there’s no ETA yet. Hopefully, we start seeing some features of the HyperOS in the coming days and also learn when the company plans to make it official.
When is HyperOS coming to global users?
It’s too early to speculate, but if the new HyperOS is more like a name change, we expect the update to become available for global users early next year. Xiaomi will release the build in China this year with Xiaomi 14 and bring it to global models in Q1 2024.
