After months of testing, Google released its new Find My Device Network in select regions last month. The latest update introduced one feature that is much-anticipated, and to make sure people leverage it, Google is informing eligible users about the arrival via email.
The latest Find My Device Network can locate your Android phones even if they are offline and is currently exclusive to American and Canadian users. These are the only regions getting the latest email from Google to inform them about the new feature.
Google explained in the email how you can use the Find My Device Network “to locate your devices even if they’re offline.” However, we understand that only the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro can be tracked while they are offline. Also, Google stressed that if you don’t opt-out using the link attached to the email, your “Android device will soon join the Find My Device network.” This will happen automatically after three days of receiving the email, but you can disable the feature via your device settings.
You might be wondering how Google plans to track an offline device. They plan to use Bluetooth to scan for nearby devices and if any is detected, their location will be sent to Find My Device Network securely.
Devices in the network use Bluetooth to scan for nearby items. If other devices detect your items, they’ll securely send the locations where the items were detected to Find My Device. Your Android devices will do the same to help others find their offline items when detected nearby.”
“Your devices’ locations will be encrypted using the PIN, pattern, or password for your Android devices. They can only be seen by you and those you share your devices within Find My Device. They will not be visible to Google or used for other purposes.”
Currently, you can only track your Android phone and Tablets using the Find My Device Network. Google plans to bring support for location trackers next month, and you can follow our social media platforms to know when it becomes available.
