After failing to release updates on time in the last two months, Google is currently rolling out the May 2023 Android security patch for Pixel phones. The update started rolling out a couple of hours ago and seems to resolve some issues and improve performance.
The last two months saw the monthly security patch update arrive on the second Monday of the month instead of the first. It seems those days are over, as the May 2023 security patch for Pixel phones began rolling out just in time. However, it’s arriving in batches and might take a couple of hours before arriving on your device.
According to the May 2023 Android security patch bulletin, the latest update resolved 18 security vulnerabilities with the patch dated 2023-05-01 and 29 security issues in the 2023-05-05 patch. These security flaws range from moderate to high.
There are two additional bug fixes, “fix for issue occasionally causing lock screen UI elements to overlap with home screen launcher interface” and “Improvements for touch screen response in certain conditions.” The latter is specifically for Pixel 7 users, while the former involves all Pixel phones.
Also, the bug where Smart Lock doesn’t show connected devices seems to have been fixed on Pixel 7 Pro. There might be additional bug fixes, and hence, we recommend installing the update when prompted.
