When the news of Xiaomi Memory Extension features first broke on the internet, it seemed to be exclusive for premium phones. That seems not to be the case. Perhaps, considering what the function is all about, it’s mid-range phones with relatively low memory that will make better use of it. And going by the recent reports, Xiaomi seems to have extended the support to mid-range phones and has now enabled it on Redmi Note 9 Pro, Mi 10 Lite, and the recently released Mi Mix 4.
For starters, the Xiaomi Memory Extension function allows supported devices to get extra virtual RAM when handling demanding applications. Initially, the features could only allocate 1GB of virtual RAM taken from the device’s internal storage. However, it has been upgraded to up to 3GB of RAM, but it seems only premium phones get that much virtual RAM.
According to developer Kacper Skrzypek, the Xiaomi Memory Extension function is available for the recently released Mi Mix 4. It arrived with the latest closed beta update – V21.8.17, and it seems the same build enabled it on Mi 10 Lite and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. That automatically qualifies the Mi 10T Lite and Mi 10i, global versions of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, for the virtual RAM function.
However, because the function remains exclusive to closed beta testers, global stable ROM users might have to wait for a while. Perhaps, they’ll receive it with MIUI 13, which will be launching towards the end of the year. But if you run Xiaomi.eu ROM, the feature has already been enabled. You need to enable it under settings for it to work, anyways.
