Google is already preparing for the Android 13 beta tests, while OEMs are yet to deliver stable Android 12 to all their eligible phones. Xiaomi has been deploying the Android 12-based MIUI 13 update since its official unveiling in China on December 28, 2022. The update has reached some eligible phones in China, and it has now arrived for the Mi 9 Pro 5G, but without Android 12.
Launched in September of 2019, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G debuted pre-installed with Android 10 on top of MIUI. According to the company’s Android policy, the device is eligible for Android 12, given that it has only received one major Android OS upgrade. However, with the Mi 9 Pro 5G stable MIUI 13 update now seeding without a new Android OS, we doubt if the device will upgrade to Android 12.
Nevertheless, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G stable update is seeding with features of the new iteration of MIUI. It has enhanced security features and introduces new super-live wallpapers while adding new widgets. The sidebar has been revamped with the control center to integrate the Mi Smart Hub. Also, Xiaomi introduced a new Mi Sans Font and improved the stability of MIUI. You can access all the changes here.
The update is seeding for Mi 9 Pro 5G users with a version number MIUI 13.0.1.0 RFXCNXM. It weighs in at about 3.0GB and is currently available for the Mi Pilots. We expect the public release before the end of next month, as that’s the timeframe for Xiaomi to deliver MIUI 13 to all phones on the third batch of the rollout.
