According to the latest development, a company as far back as 2014 has already trademarked the name “MIX” before Xiaomi filed its application for the same name in 2016. Due to this, a court sitting in Beijing has ruled against Xiaomi using the name “MIX” because is understood to be a trademark infringement.
The company since March 4, 2019, left its case with Xiaomi in Court since the Chinese company refuses to make any statement on the dispute. However, a panel was set up following the law and the outcome shows that in according to Article 69 of Administrative Law of the People’s Republic of China, Xiaomi doesn’t have the right to the trademark.
Based on this judgment, the upcoming MI Mix 4 might have to settle for a different naming. However, is likely impossible considering that Xiaomi might still reach an agreement with the company with the trademark to allow it’s used on their phone.
We continue to wait on Xiaomi response regarding the case but as of the time of this report, the company is still yet to make any official statement.
