After nearly three years, Xiaomi has introduced a true successor to the Mi Mix 3. The Mi Mix series is where the company shows its innovative prowess, and they didn’t disappoint. They have managed to hide the front camera under the display for a true full-view experience without a slider. The event also saw the unveiling of the Mi Pad 5 and 5 Pro. For now, we want to take a look at the newly released MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, which seems to focus on memory optimization.
The Xiaomi MIUI Android skin, like other skins out there, is not free from bugs. However, it seems to take so much time before these problems are addressed, even after being reported. That led to the creation of Pioneer Group that will look into these problems faced by Mi fans, and maybe it’s based on their recommendations that the MiUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition has been released. Meanwhile, no features will be arriving with the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition. Instead, the company is focusing on optimization to reduce power consumption.
According to the Xiaomi, they have addressed over “160 system header issues with centralized feedback and 224 system application issues.” The MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition also “brings full optimization from the bottom frame to the top application.”
MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition features
Liquid Storage; The feature essentially stores up data contiguously. Xiaomi has been able to increase the efficiency of defragmentation by 60%. Perhaps, the company carried out a test with the Mi 11 Pro, and it shows there will be less than 5% read and write attenuation after 36 months of use and that will make performance smooth.
Atomic Memory; This, according to Xiaomi, focuses on memory management for a smooth experience. And because “High memory demand brings with it more frequent background cleaning and more repeated loading. The improved version of MIUI 12.5 adds atomic memory, self-researched and optimized for the memory management mechanism, allowing applications to reside stably.”
Focus computing and self-developed optimization; Xiaomi has optimized MIUI to focus on the user’s perception. They were able to achieve this by the addition of focus computing and self-developed optimization for processor programming. What it does is to handle the current user’s perception first depending on the scene, while unimportant apps in the background are suppressed. With this, the company has reduced CPU usage by 15% and power consumption by an average of 8%.
Smart Balance; Perhaps, this performs the same task as the Power and Balance mode, that was added to the battery save the layout. That seems like it with both focusing on improving battery life, but the Smart Balance is automated. According to Xiaomi, it has seen power consumption reduced by 10% in the Mi 11. Meanwhile, what the Smart Balance does is “intelligently maps hardware performance and power consumption, and seeks a balance between performance and power consumption.”
The new MIUI 12.5 Enached Edition has been scheduled to start rolling out from August 13. It will first arrive in China for 12 models before extending to other phones. Below are the first 12 phones to receive the update starting from August 13. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait for a long time before it starts hitting global models.
