Among the core features of Xiaomi smartphones has always been its Android-based MIUI interface. MIUI is one of the most amazing distant modifications of the original operating system. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer has developed the operating system so smartly in some areas that there are even several customer ROMs for other brands’ smartphones are available.
Now it is being speculated that Xiaomi will roll out its major Android update in the next month. We might see MIUI 13 at the end of June. MIUI is the surface of Xiaomi, and last year it was already confirmed that this would come in the second quarter.
While the competition always ties a new version of their interface to a major Android update, MIUI and Android are separate on Xiaomi. So, there will be the first devices with MIUI 13 in the summer that use Android 11 as a basis.
Details on Xiaomi’s new MIUI interface are not yet available, but there is talk of a new interface and wallpapers. The new update is expected to include new changes such as in design, improved touch, new privacy features, built-in screen recording, better battery performance, new notification panel, new gestures, and many more.
However, we should consider that this only applies to Chine as of now. The date of June is speculated for the Chinese market only. The global release date of MIUI 13 is still unknown. For instance, for MIUI 12, we had to wait more than a few weeks after it was released in the Chinese market. Plus, it is currently uncertain whether older cell phones will also receive the update. There are contradicting statements about the supported devices.
According to several reports, smartphones from 2019 will not be supportable with MIUI 13. However, another report claims that more than 80 smartphones will receive the update to MIUI 13. Thus, there are several rumors, and there is no official statement from the company; we just have to wait to see what comes true. Mi 9 series, Mi Mix 2S. Redmi Note 8 Series and Mi 8 Series are some of the phones that are still in a questionable box about whether they will get this new update or not.
It remains to be seen whether the decision would also mean that the phones will not be updated to Android 12 either. Unlike other manufacturers, Xiaomi does not link its user interface to a specific Android version. Theoretically, the phones could get an update to Android 12 despite the older MIUI version.
Well, we have to take everything by a pinch of salt as there is no confirmation from Xiaomi as of now. We will see what would happen once the event takes place on 25th June. However, we are still in doubt whether the features and functions of MIUI 13 available for the Chinese market will be available for the rest of the world or not. Xiaomi has not confirmed anything, but we may see the first teaser of this significant update soon.
