At that time, everyone believed it would be the MIUI 13, but the company surprised everyone when it announced MIUI 12.5 was coming. The update, which is now rolling out, is an intermediary between the MIUI 12 and MIUI 13. It seems the company has to do it after the buggy MIUI 12 update — something they promised to fix with MIUI 12.5.

Looking at that time frame, it might not be practicable, given that MIUI 12.5 will still not yet get to many people by then. However, that time could be when the development version will start, perhaps, when the build will be pushed to closed beta testers.
Of course, closed beta testers are always the first set of people to receive a new iteration of MIUI. We don’t expect that to change soon, and hence, we expect to see the first MIUI 13 closed beta build towards June 2021. According to our source, this is when the update will supposedly launch. However, we advise that you take the information with a pinch of salt, pending when Xiaomi makes an official announcement.
