Google Pixel 8 will be arriving very soon, succeeding the Google Pixel 7. As usual, we’ve got leaks flying around online and this time, it’s about the Google Pixel 8 display. Let’s see what we’ve got.
Smaller Google Pixel 8 display?
According to Kamila Wojciechowska from Android Authority, the upcoming Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones will feature smaller screens compared to their predecessors. The Google Pixel 8 display is expected to be 6.17 inches in size, down from 6.31 inches. This time, the smaller device will also have a 120Hz refresh rate, although the resolution will remain at FHD+ (2400×1080).
The Pixel 8 Pro would likewise experience a size drop, but not one that anybody would notice. The display will still be 6.7 inches wide, but the screen will be one millimeter smaller. Both phones will also reportedly undergo substantial alterations to the Google Pixel 8 display’s corners, possibly as a result of the Pro’s adoption of a flat glass cover.
Interestingly, the Pixel 8 Pro will reportedly have a lower resolution, dropping from 3120×1440 on the Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro to 2992×1344. This reduces the pixel-per-inch to 490 from 512. The positive trade-off appears to be a faster refresh rate on the Pro.
The Google Pixel 8 display appears to have more refresh rate choices, including 5Hz, 10Hz, 30Hz, and anywhere between 60Hz and 120Hz. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 would offer 10Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz, and 120Hz. That said, the values on the Google Pixel 8 display were discerned from code and not actual measurements, so this leak should be taken with a pinch of salt.
The brightness is maybe the most welcome improvement. The Pixel 8 will reportedly have a maximum brightness of 1,400 nits, while the Pixel 8 Pro will have a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits. This is an increase from 1,000 nits in this identical scenario with HDR on the Pixel 7 generation.
As we await the official launch of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, these leaked details provide some insight into the potential Google Pixel 8 display features of the upcoming devices, including smaller sizes, improved refresh rates, and increased brightness levels.
