Earlier, we reported that the first update for the Pixel Buds A-series was rolling out to the users of this wearable. Unfortunately, it has been reported that there are multi-pairing failures after the installation of the firmware update (via the Pixel Buds app of course).

Further details on the multi-pairing failures

The claims originally surfaced on the Google Pixel subreddit (via Android Police), where people were ecstatic to learn that the firmware upgrade was now available. However, as some customers had a chance to test their buds following the update, complaints of multi-pairing failures began to pour in. While the feature isn’t an official feature on this hardware, it’s sad to know that the users a facing this.

The Pixel Buds A-Series can only connect to one device at a time, however, it has previously been linked with many devices without difficulty. It can now only be used by the most current device that has successfully paired with it after the upgrade. This is despite consumers attempting to conduct a full factory reset. If you remove the buds from your Android phone and then attach them to another device, they do not appear to operate correctly on either device.

Before proceeding, you must re-pair the Pixel Buds with the secondary. When you return to using your phone, the earphones will no longer be able to connect until they are re-paired. To make matters worse, customers claim that they must hold down the charging case button for twenty seconds for the Pixel Buds to be identified by a smartphone that has previously been associated with them.

While it’s unclear what’s causing the issue, Google has now acknowledged and also provided the update below…

Hi everyone, We are aware of an issue with our latest firmware update for Pixel Buds A-Series (v3.519.0) that affected some users’ ability to connect Pixel Buds A-Series to a second device (e.g. moving the connection from your phone to your tablet). We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. An update that remedies this behavior will be rolled out to 100% of users by Monday, February 6th. We recommend that you don’t update your Pixel Buds A-Series until the new update is available on Monday, February 6th.
