Ahead of the scheduled global MIUI 12.5 unveiling, Xiaomi is currently pushing a new update for Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro. Both phones will receive the latest MIUI Android skin and probably alongside the Android 11 build. They’re testing the update in China under the closed beta group, and Xiaomi is likely to release the update in that region very soon.
Meanwhile, the device users have an update available for download. Both updates bring the January security patch, although some devices have received the February security patch. However, we expect a new update to roll out very soon and push the security level to the latest one. For now, you should head over to the updater app and fortify your device with the new update.
On the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the rollout is currently live in China. It has been released for random users for preview and arrived with a version number – MIUI 12.0.5.0 QGGCNXM – and weighs in at 391. Unfortunately, the update could only push the security level to December 2020, as per the changelog, and that’s disappointing. Nevertheless, we expect a new build with the latest security patch to roll out soon.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 8 update is available for Indians. The update has a version number – MIUI 12.0.2.0 QCOINXM – and is on a public rollout. It has been on beta preview, which is now completed, and hence, a wider rollout. But unlike the Pro variant, the new Redmi Note 8 update bumps the security patch level to January 2021. It also improved the system security and optimized the control center layout in landscape mode.
