HMD Global has launched a new budget phone, the Nokia C12, which runs on Android 12 Go Edition, to start the year 2023. Although the model number suggests it is a successor to the Nokia C10 from 2021, it is smaller in size compared to other phones in the C-series. Let’s see what features are present in this budget-friendly smartphone.
Features of the Nokia C12
As mentioned earlier, the new smartphone is quite smaller and that’s evident in the display. The Nokia C12 is equipped with a 6.3″ LCD with HD+ resolution, its dimensions are 160.6 x 74.3 x 8.75mm and weighs 177.4g. In comparison, its predecessor the Nokia C10 has a larger 6.52″ display and its dimension is 169.9 x 77.9 x 8.8mm, weighing 191g. Another recent model, the Nokia C31, is larger with a 6.75″ display.
Speaking of chipset, The Nokia C12 is powered by the Unisoc SC9863A1 chipset, which is based on an older 28nm technology. It features eight Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 4x 1.6GHz + 4x 1.2GHz and a PowerVR IMG 8322 GPU.
As regards storage, the phone comes with 2GB of RAM and has the option to enable an additional 2GB of virtual RAM. Android 12 Go Edition can run on as little as 1GB of RAM, while some models come with up to 4GB, so the C12 falls in the middle. It has 64GB of storage (eMMC 5.1), but it does not have a microSD card slot for expansion.
Since the Nokia C12 is a budget-friendly device, you can’t expect a high-end or even a mid-range feature in the camera section. Well, the device is equipped with two cameras, an 8MP rear camera with autofocus and an LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera in a notch. Both cameras have Night and Portrait modes.
Other features of the Nokia C12 include 4G connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.2, a 3000 mAh battery (to be charged with a 5W charger) and an IP52 rating. Despite its affordable price, the Nokia C12 is built to be durable. It features a polycarbonate body with a textured design for a secure grip and is protected against drops with toughened glass on the front. HMD Global has committed to providing quarterly security updates for 2 years. There is no information on OS updates, but that is typical for Go Edition models.
Lastly, on pricing, the 2/64GB variant of the smartphone (which is the only storage configuration) will be available for €120 ($130/£105/10,500). People in Germany and Austria will be getting the smartphone first with plans to expand the availability soon.
