Speaking of updates, it has been confirmed that OnePlus is changing its update policy by 2023. It’s all about updating with most phone brands this season – oh well, it’s as expected as the Android 13 is almost coming to an end with the Android 14 in sight. Nonetheless, it’s nice to see phone brands combine the stock Android 13 with theirs.

OnePlus 10 Pro Android 13 beta 3, OnePlus is changing its update policy

OnePlus is changing its update policy as, the brand will be rolling out 4 years of OS upgrades to smartphones plus 5 years of security patches. According to the brand, “As a user-oriented company, we do everything we can to enhance user experience. With more users keeping their devices for longer, we want to make sure we can offer that possibility. This new update policy will give users access to the latest security and functional features required to power OnePlus’ signature fast-and-smooth experience throughout the lifetime of the phone.”

As OnePlus is changing its update policy thereby offering more Android OS upgrades, we see it as compensation for the different protestations made by OnePlus users as regards how the software rollout is run. Meanwhile, the brand notes that the OxygenOS 13.1 will be coming in sometime in Q1 2023 alongside the OxygenOS 14(but probably as a beta version) since it’s based on the Android 14 and will only kickstart with the Android Developer Preview phase.

It looks likely that the Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 will be coming in with the OnePlus 11 series set to debut in Q1 2023 as well. As OnePlus is changing its update policy, there wasn’t any news tagged with it as regards if the old OnePlus devices will be involved in the process.

The last we’ve seen of anything of this sort was when the brand rolled out the Android 10 to the OnePlus 5T series when it was said that the smartphone was ending in Android 9(we’ll keep you posted if any change occurs).

OnePlus is changing its update policy: Samsung and OnePlus take the lead in Android OS upgrades

The policy changes seen by OnePlus are a very familiar move from Samsung. A few months ago, Samsung announced that there will be 4 major OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches for select Galaxy smartphones. Google(the owner of the Android OS) decides to roll out just three Android OS upgrades although with the same 5 years security patch. This might be a push for the Big G to step up their game.
