Another feature in the bag from the very impressive and aesthetic Android 14. According to sources, the Passkey support for Dashlane will be coming in via Android 14 plus some other features.
Passkey Support for Dashlane
Passkeys are on the way as a method to replace traditional passwords with your phone and its biometrics, and Android 14 is scheduled to provide native support for passkeys to applications like Dashlane.
Dashlane said today in a blog post that it would integrate native support for passkeys in Android 14. The forthcoming version of Android allows third-party apps to use passkeys, so Dashlane won’t be the only app to benefit when the upgrade is released later this year. Recently, 1Password added support for passkeys.
Dashlane says “Mobile platforms such as Android and iOS will require changes to enable third-party applications such as Dashlane to manage passkeys. These are the very changes that have been included in this developer preview of Android 14. The user can simply create a passkey using their fingerprint instead of entering a password. The fingerprint ties the authentication action to the user of the device, which prevents anyone else from creating and using passkeys on this specific device.”
How Passkey support for Dashlane will look was revealed via a tweet by Dashlane and it looks much like the biometrics we see around today on Androids. Passkey support for Dashlane on Android will be included in the final version of Android 14, which is planned to arrive in August of this year, barring any unexpected delays.
