Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are the latest smartphones from Google. The duo has some compelling specs, but the proposed seven years of software support seems the most notable. Interestingly, Google will also make available spare parts for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for seven years.
Google currently sits on top of the pile for the longest software support. The tech giant smashed Samsung’s four years of Android OS updates and Apple’s six years of support. Starting with Pixel 8 models, the company will provide seven years of Android OS updates, security patches, Quarterly updates, and more. The move raised some questions about whether these phones will be in good shape for seven years, and Google is making sure of that with its commitment to provide spare parts for seven years.
According to the director of product management at Google via Android Authority, the company will make spare parts available for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for seven years;
Parts will be available for seven years. That’s part of our commitment as we go to the seven years (sic) that we need to make our parts available so you can keep your hardware alive for that long.
Google is expected to provide spare parts for these phones through iFixit. The company is currently partnering with Google in the US, hence, we believe the repair parts will be available on their website. They also provide in-depth guides on how to repair your device. With their guide, it will be easy to replace your battery, which degrades over the years.
