Xiaomi phones and those released under its sub-brands do not get the best support. While the Chinese company is improving on other aspects of its smartphone, we believe extending its support period should be a priority, as a three-year-old phone should be eligible for a new Android OS update.
POCO F4 GT arrived in early 2023, April to be precise, with Android 12. It has since received two Android OS upgrades – Android 13 and Android 14, but that’s probably where the journey ends. A new report suggests Xiaomi will not upgrade the device to Android 15 but will receive a HyperOS 2 update later this year.
A glance at Xiaomi’s Product software support information page shows that POCO F4 GT will stop getting updates from April 26, 2025. That will be exactly three years since it debuted, which is not bad considering the price tag, but the company can do better. Entry-level Samsung phones are already eligible for six years of OS, with monthly security patches.
Meanwhile, the device will likely get the HyperOS 2 update, the last major update planned for the phone. We hope it arrives before the end of the support period, as that might jeopardize the chance of the upgrade.
What does the POCO F4 GT Android 15 update not happening to mean?
The POCO F4 GT will continue working, but will not receive updates. But that’s from April. To continue receiving monthly security patches and major Android OS upgrades, you should buy a new device or flash custom ROM.
