The Xiaomi sub-brand, POCO, continues to announce affordable smartphones, with their latest release, the POCO M2. It’s the vanilla version of the M2 Pro and also a rebadged Redmi 9 Prime that was launched in India a couple of weeks ago. The device tries to get the pace with the M2 Pro as it packs some interesting specs, and most especially, the aggressive low price tag.
First off, the front panel. There’s a big 6.53-inch FullHD+ teardrop display. It houses the 8MP front shooter and makes use of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The back panel has a two-tone pattern anti-fingerprint texture design. It houses a Quad-camera setup of a primary 13MP shooter, flanked by an 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, and 2MP depth sensors, while the fingerprint scanner sits below the arrangement.
The Poco M2 draws power from a beefy 5000mAh battery with 18W quick charge support. Unfortunately, the package ships with a 10W adapter, hence to top up at higher speed, you need to purchase an 18W adapter.
Outside-of-the-box, the device runs Android 10 based on MIUI 11. However, the company promised to roll out the MIUI 12 update in no time. Interestingly, the company is promising a clean UI that’ll be free from ads, and we hope they keep to their words.
Other features of the POCO M2 are IR Blaster, 3.5mm headphone jack, water repellent nano-coating, wireless FM radio, and Hybrid Dual SIM slot. Connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS; A-GPS, GLONASS, and BDS.
