Enabling Private Space might brick your Pixel phone

Google started rolling out the stable Android 15 update last week. All eligible Pixel phones have probably received the update, which introduced new features. The highly anticipated Private Space arrived with the build but seems to be bricking some Pixel 6 phones.

Private Space

One of the most talked about Android 15 features, is the Private Space – a space that lets you hide apps you do not want people to see when you hand them your phone. Google says you need a new Google account for it, and you can check here on how to enable it.

However, you might want to avoid setting it up if you are using the Pixel 6. According to reports, some Pixel 6 users have their phones bricked after enabling Private Space and trying to open an app they installed on it. Some people might have had their device dead without setting up Private Space, while others had it enabled, and their device died sometime after that.

While it is unclear whether the Private Space is the cause, we recommend not setting it up, especially on your Pixel 6 phone. It is said that the new feature could be operating as a new user profile, similar to Android 14’s multi-user profile bug.

Google has yet to say anything about the issue, but our source says they have reached out to the tech company for comment. Hopefully, it won’t affect all the Pixel 6 series phones. We don’t think Pixel 7 and later Pixels owners should worry about the issue as the Private Space is working fine on our Pixel 7 Pro.
