The Xiaomi Mi 9 was the company’s flagship phone of 2019. It debuted with Android 9 Pie on top of MIUI and has since been upgraded to Android 11. Unfortunately, that’s where the journey ends. The device will not receive the Android 12 update, and for some time now, there hasn’t been an update for the stable channel. Also, from October 27, the device will stop the development version of internal testing, meaning closed beta tests will stop for the phone. However, Xiaomi might deliver the RAM Extension features before the EOL.
The RAM Extension feature first arrived for closed beta testers months ago. It was the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra that tested the function before its wider availability. Currently, both mid-range and sub-premium Xiaomi phones have got the feature. Going by the recent report, it seems the list will expand even more. The company executive has confirmed that the RAM Extension feature is coming to Xiaomi Mi 9.
Xiaomi RAM Extension feature essentially converts part of your internal storage to virtual RAM. Initially, the capacity was capped at 1GB but has now improved to 3GB. Meanwhile, it depends on the device and the amount of internal storage left. The function is expected to arrive on the Mi 9 in the subsequent beta builds.
It was during the MIUI Pioneer Team Q&A session that the question was raised. The team replied that plans are in place to bring the RAM Extension feature to Xiaomi Mi 9. Unfortunately, they didn’t say when the function will arrive but asked fans to check subsequent builds. Hopefully, the next closed beta update will enable the virtual RAM on the Xiaomi Mi 9.
That said, we will keep an eye on the development. We’ll update this space when the feature arrives. For now, you can check this post on how to activate the RAM Extension function on your phone.
