The initial feeling was that the Redmi 6 / 6A MIUI 12 update will not be released. That’s because the phone doesn’t meet the requirements needed for the upgrade, and hence, Xiaomi decided against it. The company released a statement in that regard but promised to work and see if they could resolve it. Of course, the Redmi 7, which has now received MIUI 12.5, and Redmi Y3 were among the phones ruled out from receiving the update. However, when the former started receiving MIUI 12, it gave hope to Redmi 6 / 6A users. But given the latest report, the phones still doesn’t meet the requirements.
Meanwhile, the company has released the fastboot ROM for interested people to flash on their own. That comes with a warning. According to Xiaomi, the duo has insufficient hardware performance to adopt MIUI 12 stable version OTA full release. However, they provided a fastboot ROM for people that want to try it by flashing the ROM. And if you opt to flash the build, you should see the warning below.
Note:
“It should be noted that the two machines cannot run smoothly after upgrading to the MIUI 12 stable version, and there will be stalls and slow application startup. Please consider upgrading carefully. After upgrading the MIUI 12 stable version and then downgrading the line, data loss will occur.”
That said, you shouldn’t blame anyone after upgrading and can’t recognize your device again. Meanwhile, the Chinese variants of the Redmi 6 / 6A are the ones getting the update. And with this development, there’s little to no chance of it coming to the global model. However, if you have Chinese models and wish to take a risk, you can download the fastboot ROM below.
