Xiaomi took a different approach last year with the release of the Redmi Note 9 series. The company had to launch another version for the Chinese market, given the lack of 5G connectivity on the global version. However, the Redmi 9 did make it to that region where it debuted with Android 10 on top of MIUI 12. That makes it eligible for Android 11 and MIUI 12.5, with the latter expected to arrive with the first wave of the rollout. It seems Xiaomi had a different idea as they start pushing the Redmi 9 Android 11 update based on MIUI 12.
Now that Xiaomi is rolling out Redmi 9 Android 11 update based on MIUI 12, the MIUI 12.5 will arrive with a different build. That shouldn’t be far away, though, as the official rollout schedule has the device on the first wave of the rollout but is yet to start seeding. You can keep an eye on our tracker page to know when the update starts seeding.
Meanwhile, the Redmi 9 Android 11 update is coming as MIUI 12.0.1.0 RJCCNXM. The update is coming along with a stable MIUI based on Android 11 and has the GPS toggle renamed “Location.” And now, location info can be reported automatically before the device is powered off. Aside from the changes on the log, you’ll also get the features baked inside Android 11.
It’s important to note that the current update is a cross-section Android upgrade, and hence, you should back up your data before upgrading. Also, third-party launchers will stop working after you upgrade to Android 11. We recommend you switch to the system launcher after upgrading your device for the best experience if you’re using gesture navigation.
Don’t forget to follow our Android 11 tracker page to know when the update arrives in your region.
