Xiaomi is among the few smartphone brands that prioritize updates, but how they go about is disappointing. Aside from each release arriving with a series of bugs, the update doesn’t come on time. Even for their flagship phones, it’s still the same thing, and most times, the entry-level phones are always first to bag new security patch updates. Of course, unless you’re part of the closed beta group, that way, you’ll receive updates on a daily or weekly basis with new features to test in each release.
Meanwhile, only the Mi A2 Lite has received the June 2021 security patch update until now, with Redmi 9 Prime in India joining the party. That makes the ‘just’ the second Xiaomi phone to receive the update, and surprisingly, none of the two are flagship devices. Interestingly, most Xiaomi premium phones are currently on the April patch, while that of June is already rolling out to the entry-level Redmi 9 Prime.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime is the same device as Redmi 9 but exclusive to Indians. It debuted running Android 10 on top of MIUI 11 and has since grabbed MIUI 12. Xiaomi will also treat the device to MIUI 12.5, which supposedly will bring Android 11 along. However, as things stand now, the update isn’t ready yet, and hence, Xiaomi has released the June 2021 security patch update to increase system security and fortify the device.
The update has a version number – MIUI 12.0.3.0 QJCINXM – and weighs in at 439MB. It brings the June 2021 security patch to increase system security while adjusting the location info reporting on Mi cloud. And since the Chinese version has bagged Android 11 already, this might be the last build before the update goes global. That said, we recommend that you download and install when prompted.
