According to Counterpoint, the Xiaomi Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 were the only phones from the Chinese company on the top 10 best-selling smartphones of 2021. The list dominated by Apple’s iPhone has the Redmi 9A at number 7, while the Redmi 9 took the number 10 spot. That’s not surprising as the Redmi 9 series made up 22% of Xiaomi’s total sales last year, meaning the device is quite popular. Perhaps, that might be the reason it has been getting a timely security patch, with the company now seeding the March Android security patch.

Redmi 9A March Android security patch

Xiaomi Redmi 9A debuted in June 2020, running Android 10 on top of MIUI 11. The device is currently running Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 Enhanced and will receive the latest MIUI 13 Android skin. That’s unlikely to bring Android 12 along, but it wouldn’t change a thing, as MIUI won’t let any of the Android 12 features shine. And perhaps, to fortify the device ahead of MIUI 13 upgrade, a new update has been released.

It’s the global Redmi 9A getting the March Android security patch in a 274MB package. The update has a version number – MIUI 12.5.3.0 RCDMIXM. It has increased system security, with system optimization and bug fixes expected to be part of the build. Supposedly, it fortifies the device ahead of the MIUI 13 upgrade, although is uncertain when the update will start seeding.

Nevertheless, we recommend installing the Redmi 9A March Android security patch to improve security and stability. But given the nature of OTA, the update might arrive in the coming days, unless you want to try the manual installation.
