Xiaomi has officially released the Redmi K40 alongside the K40 Pro and K40 Pro+. The trio runs Snapdragon 800 series SoC, but the vanilla version has to settle for the SD 870 SoC. It’s paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB, but unfortunately, it doesn’t support expansion. The camera set-up has a triple arrangement while the selfie snapper is fitted into a punch hole. Interestingly, the screen refreshes at 120HZ, and it’s an AMOLED panel with a 360Hz sampling rate. As for the pricing, that “Redmi K40 specs” for the asking price is the best phone you can get at the moment.

Redmi K40 specs
The Redmi K40 has a similar design as the recently released Mi 11. At the back, it houses three camera sensors but has the fingerprint scanner on the power button. The volume rocker also sits at the frame while the USB-C port is in its normal position. Unfortunately, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, but there are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and High Res Audio certification. It makes use of Gorilla Glass 5 protection and is rated at IP53, meaning it has a high resistance to dust and splash. The device comes in White, Black, and Aurora.
Redmi K40 display
The Redmi K40 display was designed with gamers in mind. And this should be the first time seeing a super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. That means smooth gaming and rich color representation. Also, the screen supports DCI-P3 color space and HDR10+, which deliver rich details when streaming or gaming. Meanwhile, the screen measures 6.67-inch and has its resolution of 1080 x 2400p, with the brightness peaked at 1300nits. For protection, it makes use of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and is IP53 rated, meaning it has a high resistance to splash and dust.
Redmi K40 performance
Behind the performance of the Redmi K40 is the recently released Snapdragon 840 SoC. It’s a reworked Snapdragon 865 from last year, and that means better and optimized performance. The SoC has its prime core clocked at 3.2GHz with an improved Adreno 650GPU and is paired with LPDDR5 RAM up to 8GB. It will deliver peak performance and will go toe to toe with the most resource-demanding games on Playstore. Outside-of-the-box, the device runs Android 11 on top of MIUI 12, meaning it’ll get Android 12 and 13.
Redmi K40 camera
Unfortunately, the camera isn’t that impressive. Xiaomi has equipped the K40 Pro+ with the most sophisticated camera hardware. However, you’ll get a decent shot with the K40 primary 48MP sensor paired with an 8MP ultrawide angle-lens and a 5MP macro shooter. It can only shoot 4K @30fps, although SD 870 supports 8K shooting. However, there’s no limit to slo-mo videos, while the front camera has a 20MP snapper.
Redmi K40 battery and security
Powering the device is a 4520mAh battery with support for 33W charging. According to Xiaomi, it takes 52 minutes to charge the Redmi K40, and that’s quite impressive. As for security, it makes use of a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, although it’s an AMOLED display.
Redmi K40 price and availability
The Redmi K40 price is unbelievable as the specs. It starts at CYN 1,999 (~$310) for the base 6GB + 128GB storage. The 8GB model with 128GB of storage is priced at CYN (~$340), while the same RAM with 256GB sets you back CYN 2,2500 (~$390). There’s a special edition with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage that goes for above CNY 2,500. You can pre-order the device in China, where you’ll have to choose from White, Aurora, and Black color variants.
