Xiaomi has two sub-brands – POCO and Redmi that claim to be independent. It’s been a few years since that claim, but we are yet to see distinct from the parent company and its independent sub-brands. That’s because most POCO phones are rebadged Redmi or Xiaomi phones. They also share the same user interface, MIUI, while sales of Redmi and Xiaomi phones are reported simultaneously. And while we don’t expect that to change anytime soon, the former might be working on a user interface different from MIUI.
It might be about time Redmi differentiates their phones from Xiaomi. Not necessarily to stop the reworking of Xiaomi phones, but have some unique traits. That, perhaps, will be easily implemented in the area of software. According to Digital Chat Station, “some of the UI interfaces of Redmi MIUI may have to be differentiated in detail from Xiaomi, mainly to add its own brand elements.” Potentially, Redmi MIUI might be in the works, which according to the renowned leaker, will have distinct features from Xiaomi MIUI.
Unfortunately, he didn’t say where the changes will be affected, but we will probably see different animations, icons, new control and notification panels. Recall that Xiaomi disabled animation on some Redmi phones, we might see them re-enabled if the “Redmi MIUI” ever becomes a reality.
About when we might see this supposed User Interface Redmi is working on, there’s no ETA. But given how Xiaomi surprised everyone with the release of MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, we might be in for another surprise. Perhaps, works are already in place for the “Redmi MIUI” given the new report from China. That said, we hope to get more information on that. Meanwhile, we won’t be surprised if MIUI 13 arrives with a different version for POCO, Redmi, and Xiaomi phones.
