Xiaomi announced its plans to upgrade the Redmi Note 8 to Android 11 late last year, probably due to the record-breaking sales. They have since upgraded the Chinese version to Android 11, while the global models received the update a couple of weeks ago. It was a limited rollout to allow time for Beta Testers to preview the build for bugs, and given the recent development, there seem to be some issues. A new global Android 10-based MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 8 is currently rolling out.
We were all anticipating a wider Redmi Note 8 Android 11 rollout this week, but it seems the deployment has been suspended. The latest update seeding for the global models is based on Android 10 and brings only the July security patch. Of course, it’s exclusive to those still on Android 10, and hence, you shouldn’t download it if you’re on Android 11 already. Also, since it is a patch build, you can wait for the Android 11 update, and hopefully, the rollout will restart soon.
Meanwhile, it is unclear why Xiaomi supposedly suspended the Redmi Note 8 Android 11 rollout. Perhaps, the build is still under testing, and it is time for a new update for the device. That way, they had to push an Android 10 based update pending the completion of the preview. Again, maybe we are back to the old situation where some devices are upgraded, and some keep running old versions of Android. That seems to be the case, and we suggest that you download and install the latest build for a quick and seamless transition to Android 11.
