With the number of phones Xiaomi has in its stable, it’s not possible to roll out updates to all of them at once. Also, OTAs are released in batches, which sometimes take days or weeks to arrive. That’s the case of these two phones that are getting August security patches. Both rollouts are based on Android 11, and we don’t think they will receive the Android 12 update. Nevertheless, they’ll probably receive the next iteration of MIUI, and we recommend that you keep your device updated ahead of the rollout.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro August security patch started with the Chinese branch and has now reached the Russian variants. Of course, the POCO X2 August patch is exclusive to Indians. That’s the only region where Xiaomi sold the device, and hence, the rollout will soon appear on all eligible units. As for the Redmi Note 8 Pro in that region, it’s currently receiving the stable MIUI 12.5 update for the first time. As usual, the rollout is seeding for a group of people known as Mi Pilots for testing. After the preview phase, the update will start seeding to the public. Redmi Note 8 Pro is getting a stable MIUI 12.5.2.0 RGGCNXM in China, while Russian users will get MIUI 12.5.2.0 RGGRUXM. POCO X2 is getting the August security patch as MIUI 12.5.2.0 RGHINXM. It’s the second update since MIUI 12.5 rollout, and we recommend that you download and install to improve performance.
