It has been quite a journey for the Redmi Note 8 series. The phones were promised Android 11 after their record-breaking sales, which probably triggered the release of a refreshed Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition. However, months after Xiaomi promised to treat the device to Android 11, only the closed beta group and the Chinese version of the Redmi Note 8 has received the update. The Redmi Note 8 Pro was said to have adaptation issues, but it seems that has been addressed now, at least for the Chinese market.
According to reports, Xiaomi has released Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 in China. That was expected from our previous post, which suggested that the device will receive both builds simultaneously. But as usual, it is currently available for select users in China for preview, and it’ll take some time before arriving on the global market. Usually, it takes about two weeks, but given the situation of the Redmi Note 8 that received the update in China months ago, we can’t say exactly. However, you can keep an eye on our tracker page to know when the update arrives in your region.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 11 update is hitting eligible users in China with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RGGCNXM. It brings a stable MIUI based on Android 11, bumps the Android security patch level to May 2021, increased system security. Of course, the package includes the features of the new MIUI OS.
Note: the update is the first Android 11 update for the device, and hence, we recommend that you backup your data before upgrading. Early adopters of the OS encountered some bugs, which can be fixed by performing a factory reset. However, third-party launchers will stop working on gestures, and round chat bubbles will turn to square. Unfortunately, that can’t be fixed with a hard reset, but we hope a fix comes in the coming months.
